My friend recently told me that.
I’m a big advocate of that old saying…. “People like to do business with people they know, like and trust.” Well, I know that! I’ve been in business long enough to know that when I’m having success, when I’m transacting business, it’s generally been with people that know me or I them.
Do you have your own business or market someone else’s? Do you go out networking, go to events and/or meet-ups? The other night, I was off to make some new friends and maybe even conduct some business at a networking event. I’m a bit newer to Denver, not Colorado, but Denver so feel the need to enlarge my local circle of influence.
OK, I little rant here….. but sometimes it feels like a BIG pitching game! Everyone’s pitching their businesses and nobodies having fun. Now, I know that’s why we attend these events, to hopefully drum up some business. But lately, I’m not having any fun! Do you ever see those people that must be new to networking? They’re just running around the circles, talking as fast as they can with a fist full of business cards and just handing them out like candy. Do YOU ever call those people?
Maybe I’m not running in the right circles or going to the best meet-ups. But, I do believe that times are changing. The best way to do business has always been by referring or personally doing business with those you know, like and trust. But, do you feel as though something different? Something is changing? You’re not having fun anymore? Maybe there’s a better way? I’d love to know what you find works for you if you network – especially if you’re having fun doing it. Please feel free to leave a comment!
